Testing the Hypothesis pt. 2
1. Justin Golabek
Who: People who sweat less even thought they live in a hot climate. If they do not sweat, there is not a problem.
What: The need for a better shirt could be supplemented with better air conditioning in buildings.
Why: There is not really a reason other than the sun beating down on people that causes them to sweat.
2. Michael Roth
Who: People who wear fishing shirts might not need a replacement since these shirts are already thinner.
What: A person could use an umbrella to shield themselves from the Sun.
Why: The sweating could be caused by personal issues that are beyond walking in the Sun.
3. Chad Gibson
Who: People who do not care about the sweat on their shirt would not want a better shirt.
What: If someone stays in the shade, then they are less likely to sweat and need the shirt.
Why: They do not need a shirt if they stay in the shade and avoid the sun.
4. Matthew Sullivan
Who: People who do not like t-shirts and prefer tank tops would not want a better shirt.
What: A tank top accomplishes a similar goal and meets the goal better for some.
Why: Their attempt to not sweat is through an alternative method.
5. Gabe Pena
Who: People who do minimal walking may not want to buy a better shirt the little time they may sweat.
What: If a person stays inside most of the time, it keeps them out of the sun and not sweating.
Why: Their staying inside prevents them from sharing the need to the same extent as others.
Inside the Boundary Outside the boundary
People who sweat and do not have People who have a personal solution
a good way to fix it. or do not care.
To stop the sweat from sticking to a person. Avoiding the sunlight/sweating.
People do not like to constantly have People wanting to be fashionable or not
sweat on them. looking for a new kind of shirt.
Summary
I have been able to narrow the types of people that may or may not be interested in a hydrophobic shirt. I can now predict my target audience and better understand why they want this shirt and others do not.

Solving The Problem
My opportunity is the hot son bearing down on the everyday person and causing them to sweat. This sweat then accumulates in the shirt they are wearing and continues to stay there even after they have gone inside. This is seen as a discomfort by everyone I have interviewed as it creates a cold, clamminess to their shirt. Beyond that, if the situation is bad enough, leaning back in a chair could be particularly uncomfortable.
With all of this, I believe this opportunity could easily be exploited through the production of a shirt that actively resists absorption of the sweat. This technology is not unheard of as there are materials that are made specifically to be hydrophobic. This material could used to create a brand of shirt that could be marketed to students. While making a new brand of shirt could be seen as entering a busy market, it is possible to have a surge of brands becoming more prominent in specific age groups. Comfort Colors is a brand of shirts which is marketed to a younger with promise of comfortable clothing that does not sacrifice style. This format could be followed for a shirt that is hydrophobic and does not sacrifice style to do it. The integration into this group will take time, but due to the prevalence of people who share this problem and no real solution, I believe it will be adopted.

Testing my Hypothesis
1. My opportunity is the need for something to fix the feeling of sweat on the back of a person in their shirt.
2. The who: University students
The what: When they walk to class they sweat and it gets stuck in their shirt, making them uncomfortable.
The why: Shirts do not dry quickly and are very absorbent of sweat.
3a. Timothy Hartung
Testing the who: Bikers in college would suffer more from backpack closeness.
Testing the what: People who are in hot climates not indoors.
Testing the why: Heat causes the problem because of how long you are in the sun.
b. Sara Gaya
Testing the who: Students that walk or bike to school.
Testing the what: People who are in a colder area would not have this problem.
Testing the why: Lack of public transportation to stay out of the heat.
c. Wyatt Bourbon
Testing the who: Athletes that are involved in contact sports and running.
Testing the what: No real limit, all suffer from the problem just in varying forms.
Testing the why: Climate and breath-ability of clothing causes sweat to stick the most to shirts.
d. Duncan Gary
Testing the who: Overweight people that take no strides to become fit.
Testing the what: The heat present in the atmosphere as well as the distance being traveled.
Testing the why: The humidity of the area is the biggest source of the problem.
e. Joshua Pullen
Testing the who: People who walk outside for more than one minute.
Testing the what: If you are outside than their is no boundary to having this problem.
Testing the why: The axis the Earth is tilted on pointing Florida so directly towards the sun.
5. I have learned that the common man sees heat and climate to be the end all be all to sweating. I also learned most people can only see as far as their own experience. By this I mean I interviewed college students and they saw themselves as the biggest sufferer of this problem. Lastly, I learned few people see a shirts breath-ability as the source of the problem for this opportunity.

Opportunities in Trends
1. There is an economic opportunity in Eminem recently coming back into the limelight of music.
a. I found news regarding Eminem's recent album and 'diss' tracks through Twitter.
b. I believe an opportunity exists here as Eminem is famous for causing drama in hip hop which is paid attention to quite a bit by the common man, Therefore, an opportunist could use his resurgence to tag along through the drama Eminem spreads.
c. The prototypical customer would most likely be a person of the younger generation who takes a liking to hip hop.
d. This opportunity could be easy to take advantage of as long as they are able to attach themselves to his drama and become noticed by the general public.
I see this as an opportunity because music is an integral part of most people's lives and therefore there is a large target audience. Additionally, Eminem is a hip hop artist which is mostly made up of young people who are more easily influenced and are more likely to spend their money.
2. There is an economic opportunity in the rise of love for Marvel superhero movies.
a. The source of my information is the gratuitous amount of money Marvel makes off every movie they make.
b. I believe an opportunity exists here to make money off of the general population who love these movies. Most people who like these movies will want to show their passion through apparel or jewelry. A well-known is a good place to make money.
c. The prototypical customer would be fans of these blockbuster movies, generally teenagers to young adults in well off countries.
d. The trouble in realizing this opportunity comes with having to get the license of the images for the apparel. Other than that, the items may very well pay for themselves in the long run.
I see this as an opportunity because I myself am a big fan of these movies, as are my friends. Due to this situation I am able to see that this type of person will often seek ways in which to become further involved in the 'culture', which includes spending money.
3. There is a regulatory opportunity in the manner which we handle insurance related to hurricanes.
a. I saw this in the news regarding hurricane Florence heading towards the Carolinas.
b. This can be an opportunity to fix the problem created by the handling of premiums and the extreme debt that these flood insurance companies are being put in.
c. The prototypical customer is the government and those who regulate insurance at the federal level.
d. This opportunity would be pretty difficult to realize as it is heavily tied to the government and the public. Therefore, it is not just a customer you are selling to, but instead to the general public affected by floods.
I see this as an opportunity because I have lived in Florida for all of my life and know how hurricanes can be very detrimental to people. Not only as the storm hits, but also the economic damage that follows the storm.
4. There is a regulatory opportunity in the recent ruling by the FFCC on how the internet is viewed by the government.
a. I saw this on CNN when it was big in the news.
b. There is an opportunity here for big broadband companies who now have the ability to add more premiums to those who regularly use the internet (which is everyone in the modern world).
c. The prototypical customer is broadband companies such as Comcast or AT&T.
d. For these companies, the opportunity is incredibly easy to take advantage of because they no longer have restrictions placed on them in regards to what limits they can put on their own customers' premiums.
I see this as an opportunity because the internet is very important in my own life. When I see ways in which I can be taken advantage of because of this situation, I become educated on the subject. I was then able to see how this change in regulation makes a hug e opportunity for broadband companies.

Identifying Local Opportunities
1. CHARGE: TEACHER HID VIDEO CAMERA
https://infoweb.newsbank.com/apps/news/document-view?p=WORLDNEWS&t=pubname%3ASPTB%21Tampa%2BBay%2BTimes%2B%2528FL%2529/year%3A2018%212018/mody%3A0913%21September%2B13&f=advanced&action=browse&format=text&docref=news/16E6A32E2995D020
A teacher at Bloomingdale High School was caught recording students as they undressed for a design class. He is being charged with video voyeurism on school property as a school employee.
The problem here is students being forced to undress in an area where there is the potential to be spied upon.
This problem is generally held by female students who are in classes that require changing clothes.
2. HUGE SEWER LINE WON'T BE BURIED ON HARBOUR ISLAND
https://infoweb.newsbank.com/apps/news/document-view?p=WORLDNEWS&t=pubname%3ASPTB%21Tampa%2BBay%2BTimes%2B%2528FL%2529/year%3A2018%212018/mody%3A0913%21September%2B13&f=advanced&action=browse&format=text&docref=news/16E6A32E09FA0420
A sewage line is being planned and will not pass through Harbour Island and will instead take an underwater path. This decision will most likely be very expensive but scientifically makes the most sense according to Mayor Buckhorn.
The problem here is where the city has to put the sewage line and how people will have to deal with the construction. Construction can lead to cut off roadways and putrid smells form the sewage.
The people potentially affected here are the people of Harbour Island who potentially could have been completely cut off from downtown Tampa. Their lives would have been tremendously hindered do to the location of the sewage line.
3. REFORMS FOR FLOOD INSURANCE OVERDUE

Hurricane Florence hitting the Carolinas could hurt Florida as it would increase flooding premiums that have been felt from our own hurricanes. The amount of money Florida has taken is roughly 8 percent while we pay for about 35 percent of their policies. The flood insurance is deeply in debt and if Florence puts the company under then Florida could end up paying even more than they already are.
The problem is Floridians are paying a large portion of the flood insurance when they are receiving a minority of the coverage.
Floridians who live on the coast where flooding is regular.
4. REPORT: PRINCIPAL SPOKE LEWDLY

The principal of Morgan Fitzgerald Middle School stepped down after being accused of sexual harassment by three separate teachers. In an interview he summed it up to "locker room talk". Of the 12 incidents, 5 were backed up with either a witness or video evidence.
Female teachers were unable to have a comfortable work environment due to the principal's environment.
The teachers of this middle school and other schools where members of the administration share this principal's disgusting view.
5. MOM: DOCTOR FOUND SON UNFIT FOR TRIAL

A man was found unable to be tried for the murdering of a father due to the man's mental illness. If the judge finds him unfit for trial he will be sent to a state hospital and receive treatment until he is found fit for trial.
People are unable to be held trial for their crimes against the public because of their mental illness. There is not a solid solution to ensuring that people with mental illness are given the help they need to tend to their problems.
This problem is both for those with mental illness and those who are harmed from a lack of ability to help those who need the help.

David Nelson's Opportunity Belief
1. I believe that opportunity for improvement exists in the standard T-shirt. This improvement would be the ability for a shirt to not hold on to sweat for as long as it does, if at all.
2. The unmet need is that people who walk from place to place outside are often left with a shirt that is stuck to their back once they have arrived at their destination. This need is for all people who live in a hot area and do not want their shirt to be stuck to them as they enter an air conditioned building. This need has been around for quite some time but still exists even with current technological advances. Currently, most people just do there best to keep themselves out of the sun so that they do not sweat enough for the problem to occur. I would say there is a 66% chance that this opportunity exists.
3a. David Keuhn is a student here at UF who has to walk long distance to get to class. He would benefit from this opportunity as he would no longer have to deal with the sweat building up in his shirt.
4a. It is a Florida problem, not much we could do to affect the temperature. It affects him always during the summer, but necessarily if it is the morning. It became most evident in high school where passageways were outside. He tries to bike as it keeps him out of the sun but he has to exert more energy which may also make him sweat. He wishes there was a better solution but not exactly sure there is one.
3b. Andrew Tumlin goes to UF and has to walk long distances to get to class. As a resident of Florida, he has to deal with almost eveyday being hot and having his feet as his main form of transportation.
4b. The sweat makes you feel sticky and unclean because of the mugginess. He noticed this annoyance in middle school and says it affects him sometimes depending on the weather. To avoid this problem he tries to walk in the shade to stay out of direct sunlight for extended periods of time. Also wishes there was another solution but believes it is not feasible to fix said problem.
3c. Hayden Clum attends the University of Florida and generally walks from place to place. Since he has to deal with the Florida heat, he would be the prototypical customer.
4c. A combination of this being Florida and also chairs being made of a material that does not help the problem. His first encounter with this need was day one of high school when there were outside passageways. He carries a lighter backpack load to keep weight as less of a problem and not leaning back in the chair. He would prefer that there would be a better solution as this only alleviates the symptoms.
5. It seems people may focus more on ways to stay out of the sun as opposed to a shirt that is less likely to absorb sweat. A special material of shirt was never mentioned which makes me believe that this opportunity could also be a creative solution to the problem. It surprised me that they had only started dealing with this problem in middle and high school and not before then.
Summary
I would say that my opportunity definitely still exists. Even though none of them suggested my idea as a solution, they all still agreed that there was a problem and wished for a better solution. I now feel there may be tweaks to my idea that involve a material that reacts to the temperature becoming colder and expelling sweat. I believe that listening to potential customers concerns is very important. A problem always has a wide variety of aspects to cover and any advice to see them all should be taken into account. When it comes down to it though, an entrepreneur should now what is best for themselves and keep their idea true to their beliefs.

David Nelson's Entrepreneurship Story
The biggest exposure to entrepreneurship is definitely my dad. As a background, my dad has been working in the wine industry for the majority of his life. He specialized in sales and was in charge of distributors in the south east. At the moment though, he has turned his eyes on taking advantage of the current champagne market. As it stands, the most commonly consumed (and most well-known) sparkling wine is champagne. There are many other sparkling wines, but none are stocked throughout America nearly as much as Champagne. This situation was also true with another alcoholic beverage, Jager. Jager was barely known in America and there was little interest for it. One single entrepreneur saw that it could do well in America with some marketing and an increase in availability in cities. My father intends to follow this idea with a sparkling wine from southern Spain that tastes just as good, if not better, than Champagne. He believes this replacement will work well as it can be marketed as a competing sparkling wine but sold at a lower price.

I joined ENT 3003 for a few reasons. Admittedly, my first reason was I needed more 3000-4000 business elective credits for my major. However, I could have picked many classes to fill this requirement. I was specifically drawn to this class as I believed learning about entrepreneurship from an experienced professor could be quite beneficial for me as a business student. Lastly, I joined this class because I prefer online classes as it gives me a good amount of flexibility in my schedule.
I hope to get a new level of appreciation for entrepreneurs out of this class.
