Opportunities in Trends

1. There is an economic opportunity in Eminem recently coming back into the limelight of music.
a. I found news regarding Eminem's recent album and 'diss' tracks through Twitter.
b. I believe an opportunity exists here as Eminem is famous for causing drama in hip hop which is paid attention to quite a bit by the common man, Therefore, an opportunist could use his resurgence to tag along through the drama Eminem spreads.
c. The prototypical customer would most likely be a person of the younger generation who takes a liking to hip hop.
d. This opportunity could be easy to take advantage of as long as they are able to attach themselves to his drama and become noticed by the general public.

I see this as an opportunity because music is an integral part of most people's lives and therefore there is a large target audience. Additionally, Eminem is a hip hop artist which is mostly made up of young people who are more easily influenced and are more likely to spend their money.

2. There is an economic opportunity in the rise of love for Marvel superhero movies.
a. The source of my information is the gratuitous amount of money Marvel makes off every movie they make.
b. I believe an opportunity exists here to make money off of the general population who love these movies. Most people who like these movies will want to show their passion through apparel or jewelry. A well-known is a good place to make money.
c. The prototypical customer would be fans of these blockbuster movies, generally teenagers to young adults in well off countries.
d. The trouble in realizing this opportunity comes with having to get the license of the images for the apparel. Other than that, the items may very well pay for themselves in the long run.

I see this as an opportunity because I myself am a big fan of these movies, as are my friends. Due to this situation I am able to see that this type of person will often seek ways in which to become further involved in the 'culture', which includes spending money.

3. There is a regulatory opportunity in the manner which we handle insurance related to hurricanes.
a. I saw this in the news regarding hurricane Florence heading towards the Carolinas.
b. This can be an opportunity to fix the problem created by the handling of premiums and the extreme debt that these flood insurance companies are being put in.
c. The prototypical customer is the government and those who regulate insurance at the federal level.
d. This opportunity would be pretty difficult to realize as it is heavily tied to the government and the public. Therefore, it is not just a customer you are selling to, but instead to the general public affected by floods.

I see this as an opportunity because I have lived in Florida for all of my life and know how hurricanes can be very detrimental to people. Not only as the storm hits, but also the economic damage that follows the storm.

4. There is a regulatory opportunity in the recent ruling by the FFCC on how the internet is viewed by the government.
a. I saw this on  CNN when it was big in the news.
b. There is an opportunity here for big broadband companies who now have the ability to add more premiums to those who regularly use the internet (which is everyone in the modern world).
c. The prototypical customer is broadband companies such as Comcast or AT&T.
d. For these companies, the opportunity is incredibly easy to take advantage of because they no longer have restrictions placed on them in regards to what limits they can put on their own customers' premiums.

I see this as an opportunity because the internet is very important in my own life. When I see ways in which I can be taken advantage of because of this situation, I become educated on the subject. I was then able to see how this change in regulation makes a hug e opportunity for broadband companies.

  1. David,

I thought you found a really good example with your 3rd trend, it's similar to an opportunity that I discovered in its relation to natural disasters. With the frequency of hurricanes, earthquakes, and other disasters that have been destructive across the U.S. every single year lately, it certainly seems like a worthwhile mention. While unfortunate, these disasters definitely open up an opportunity for businesses to come in and profit off the issues that unfold from before, during, and after natural disasters.

  2. David,
I really liked your opportunity that you identified in your second example because I have noticed that the rise of Marvel movies and appearance of the Marvel characters has been on the rise for the past couple of years. I thought it was creative that you saw an opportunity here as I have not come across any other blog posts thus far that have had a unique opportunity trend like the Marvel one!
